CHICAGO GENDER SOCIETY'S
Transsexual Support Group

We bring transsexuals and their supporters together in an encouraging atmosphere allowing us to socialize in safe environment. We can share ideas and methods for transitioning in life to the extent that each person must choose for their own path.

This peer support is crucial in building self image and confidence as well as presentation. Just as critical is helping each other become comfortable in their preferred gender. Those interested in joining the chat group must leave a COMPLETE, DETAILED profile of themselves that the moderators can view. If no profile is submitted membership will be denied. We also participate in our parent organization, the Chicago Gender Society.

The CGSTS Support Group is not a dating service or a therapy group. Each member is responsible for their own conduct, and is expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner.

WHO: This group is for those who consider themselves transsexual, whether pre-op, post-op, or non-op. We also include those who are still searching for their identity. Also included are supporters of transsexuals: spouses, partners, adult children, family, And close friends. Meeting is facilitated by Karen Heart.

WHERE: We meet at the New Spirit Church, 542 S. Scoville, Oak Park IL

WHEN: Meetings are on the 2nd Saturday of non-summer months, September thru May, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Meeting notices will be sent via e-mail, and make announcements at the CGS meetings.

WHY: To provide emotional, transitional, & social support for those who consider themselves to be transsexual. To be open, available, & compassionate to those in need. To openly show interest & concern, and to help eliminate the loneliness TS people often feel.

This is NOT a therapy group. We are not here to analyze anyone, but we have all had enough professional therapy that we can pass on what we have learned from our own sessions.

We also want to be seen as "our family", and we strive to be there when a sister or brother is in need, such as helping one through difficult times, sharing fears, disappointments, discussing problems, or the various surgeries we go through. We hope to be that shoulder to cry on, and the friends with whom we can celebrate our joys and triumphs.

We hope everyone attending will be open, up-front, and honest.
